Ishquoh: Where Sounds Meet

I work on Ishquoh: Where Sounds Meet, a ceremony of traffic noise mixed with a chorus of cedar, rock, and water sounds where singers and a string quartet search for home alongside Issaquah's historic railroad tracks.

Ishquoh will be performed as part of 4Culture's Site-Specific 2006 Program, co-presented by the Issaquah Arts Commission.

Forbidden Circles, for soprano, shakuhachi, shamisen, 17-string koto, and percussion, will be performed in Tokyo by Aura-J (formerly ORA-J), directed by Minoru Miki, at the New Hall of the International House of Japan.

On August 21st, I travel again to China as a delegate for the Dragon 100, thanks to the Dragon Foundation, Washington State Arts Commission, and Wing Luke Asian Museum.

Dragon 100 delegates are young Chinese leaders from Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Byron has been nominated and selected for the 2006 Study Tour on the Silk Road in Hong Kong and Xi'an. Delegates will discuss contemporary global issues and according to the Dragon Foundation, "work together for the betterment of their societies, forged with a spirit of innovation, enthusiasm, and commitment."
